Genc Pllana: record, next fight and profile →
An intriguing, intermediate level rematch takes place tonight at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas on the undercard of Oscar Valdez vs. Jayson Velez. Raphael "Trouble" Igbokwe (14-2, 6 KOs) of Houston will fight a rematch against Genc Pllana (8-1, 4 KOs) of Kosovo.
The weigh-in for Oscar Valdez’s televised fight Tuesday night was quite different than when he weighed in the day before his last fight. Valdez’s opponent, Jayson Velez, was heavier than Valdez when they stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale Monday, but Velez wasn’t absurdly overweight. Puerto Rico’s Velez (29-6-1, 21 KOs) officially weighed in at 130 pounds, the contracted maximum for their 10-round junior lightweight fight.
The first run of Top Rank on ESPN shows inside the MGM Grand “Bubble” will conclude with former featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez, ranked No. 1 by the WBC and WBO at junior lightweight, facing former world title challenger Jayson Velez in the 10-round main event Tuesday, July 21, inside the MGM Grand Conference Center.
Miguel “Escorpion” Marriaga’s quest for a fourth world title shot continues inside the MGM Grand “Bubble” Thursday, July 16, in a scheduled 10-round featherweight main event against Filipino veteran Mark John Yap. In the 10-round lightweight co-feature, Puerto Rican sensation Felix “El Diamante” Verdejo, closing in on a world title shot of his own, will fight the unbeaten Will Madera.
Las Vegas - Kevin Newman (11-2-1) suffered a shock loss in front of his hometown fans via unanimous against Genc Pllana (8-1-1) in the opening bout of a SHOBOX tripleheader. Pllana proved to be a very awkward opponent and Newman had trouble adjusting to his style.
