Gary Corcoran: record, next fight and profile →
Several fighters were under consideration for the first title defense of WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs). Horn captured the WBO belt back in July with a stunned twelve round unanimous decision over Manny Pacquiao before a crowd of 51,000 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
Even Jeff Horn's next opponent - hard-hitting Briton Gary Corcoran - reckons the Australian boxer did enough to beat Filipino great Manny Pacquiao and claim the WBO welterweight belt. But Corcoran has vowed to upset Horn's plans for a re-match with the 11-time world champion. Horn's camp on Monday confirmed the ex-school teacher would defend his world title against the unheralded Corcoran in Brisbane on December 13.
Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) has been out of the ring since suffering an upset unanimous decision loss to Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) back in July. With the victory, Horn captured Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title. The fight took place before a crowd of 51,000 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. The outcome was viewed as controversial - with many experts disagreeing with the scores and stamping Pacquiao as the true winner of the contest.
That was the word Bradley Skeete used to describe missing out on a world title fight against Jeff Horn later this year. The 29-year-old, ranked three by the WBO behind Lucas Matthysse and Manny Pacquiao, had hoped to land a fight with their welterweight champion in Australia only to be seemingly pipped at the post by his Queensbury Promotions stable-mate Gary Corcoran. Skeete (27-1, 12 KOs), the current British champion at 147lbs, is now looking at the consolation prize of a European title shot against Mohammed Mimoune who beat Sam Eggington last weekend to win the title.
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, UFC star Conor McGregor is a future target opponent for WBO welterweight world champion Jeff Horn, if the Australian wins his first title defence against Britain’s Gary Corcoran. Horn, who won the title off Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao back in July, will make a voluntary defence against WBO inter-continental champion Corcoran (17-1, seven KOs), that organisation’s 10th ranked contender.
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn has announced he is lining up England's Gary Corcoran for his first world title defence in Brisbane. Horn and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made the announcement in Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.
It was announced in Australia that Jeff Horn will defend his WBO welterweight title against England's Gary Corcoran (17-1, 7 KOs) in Brisbane on December 13. News Corp Australia reported that the world champion boxer had locked in a two-fight deal with the State Government and Brisbane City Council. For Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs), the Corcoran bout will be his first since a points decision win over eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao back in July.
The next name on Jeff Horn's hit list might not be a household name. But Horn's trainer Glenn Rushton is adamant England's Gary Corcoran is the ideal tune-up for a blockbuster WBO welterweight world title defence early next year. Horn could not confirm details of his next fight after receiving The Don Award, as the athlete to have most inspired Australia, on Thursday night for July's upset win over Filipino great Manny Pacquiao.
Jeff Horn's first defence of his WBO welterweight boxing title is set to be held in a creative and potential world-first type venue. Queenslander Horn, who took the title of Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao in Brisbane in July, is set to fight Britain's Gary "Hellraiser" Corcoran in the same city, most likely on December 15.
Australian Jeff “The Hornet” Horn (17-0-1) is expected to take on Londoner Gary “Hellraiser” Corcoran (17-1) in the maiden defence of his WBO world welterweight title. Promoter Bob Arum, who co-promotes Horn, has suggested that the WBO world title fight will take place at the SunCorp Stadium in Brisbane on Friday 15th December, televised live on ESPN.
