Veteran trainer Robert Garcia would be sitting on the sidelines, but he's very excited at the possibility of a middleweight showdown between WBC champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) of Puerto Rico and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs). The fight is being negotiated for May 2nd.

Most view the contest as a battle of youth vs. experience. Garcia is siding with experience.

"That's a fight that I would like to see," Garcia told BoxingScene.com. "Honestly, maybe I'm wrong in saying this but I pick Cotto [to win]. Cotto is experienced. He's been in there with the best. He's lost to great warriors, great champions. He's done it all and beaten great champions too. Canelo, the only big fight that he had was against Mayweather and he failed. Fighting Perro Angulo and against [Erislandy] Lara was a great test, and a lot of people thought he lost to Lara - and that's why, and I might be wrong, but I pick Cotto."

The World Boxing Council has already ordered the Cotto-Canelo winner to defend their title against mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs), who holds the WBA/IBO/WBC-interim belts. The Oxnard coach tasted Golovkin's power last year, when GGG blasted Garcia-trained Marco Antonio Rubio in two rounds.

"Golovkin showed to me that he's the real deal. But he needs those types of opponents and he may never have them, to be able to become the next Manny Pacquiao. Since Pacquiao was at featherweight, he was fighting the best up to welterweight and junior middleweight. Golovkin is going to have a problem because there are no opponents. But either Cotto or Canelo would give him a good fight. I don't see them beating Golovkin, but they give him a good fight," Garcia said.
