33-year old flyweight Ganigan Lopez (26-6, 16 KO), 110, of Mexico City, Mexico, had easy work on Friday night at the Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City, winning nearly every second of the fight before a mercy stoppage in round four against 20-year old Juan Luis Lopez (13-4, 7 KO), 109, of Minatitlan, Veracruz, Mexico.

The fight was relatively uneventful as Lopez dished out a one-sided clinic. Badly outmatched, Lopez took steady punishment though he stayed off the floor. A big right uppercut near the ropes was enough for the referee to halt the action at 1:36 of the fourth.

It was the first start for the victor since losing a decision for the WBC 108 lb. title against Pedro Guevara in July.

27-year old Jr. featherweight Martin Casillas (15-6-1, 9 KO), 121, of Mexico City, and 28-year old Jesus Galicia (13-8-1, 8 KO), 120, of Puebla, Mexico, battled to a third round technical draw in undercard action. It was bombs away from the start in a fight with limited skill on display. What skill there was favored Casillas who had Glaica reeling late in the second. An accidental cut in the third brought the fight to a halt on the doctor’s recommendation, leaving the fun brawl a technical draw.

An accidental headbutt came into play in the next match on the card, with a debatable result. 27-year old flyweight Said Flores (5-2-1, 1 KO), 112, of Mexico City, was awarded a fifth round stoppage on a cut over undefeated 19-year old Daniel Garcia (6-1-1, 2 KO), 112, also of Mexico City. It was a competitive, if low volume, affair and Garcia appeared to have a slight edge though the cagey Flores had raised a mouse under his left eye. In the fifth, Flores was getting some of his best work done and had the younger man on his heels. Near the ropes, Flores threw a long right and seconds later a cut was wide open over Garcia’s right eye. The doctor said the cut was too bad to continue. Referee Jose Medel ruled the cut caused by a punch but replays indicated it was a smashing head to the face that had done the damage. The official time of the finish was 2:31 of round five.

The card was telecast in the US on Telemundo, promoted by “Tuto” Zabala and All Star Boxing.
