Having been rumoured for a few weeks, we now have confirmation that former IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards will face 2020 Olympic gold medallist Galal Yafai on November 30 at BP Pulse LIVE in Birmingham.

In June, the cut and bloodied Sunny Edwards returned from the occasion of his first defeat by beating Adrian Curiel. He then sat down to watch Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, who inflicted that defeat, impress in victory over Juan Francisco Estrada. In September he will again be ringside when his brother Charlie fights Thomas Essomba, who he manages, and in November he hopes to fight his leading domestic Galal Yafai. He discussed all, in an extensive Q&A.

Matchroom expect to finalize a fight between Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai in the coming days.

Sunny Edwards expects to fight Galal Yafai in Birmingham in November – and then to challenge for the WBC flyweight title in 2025

Sunny Edwards faces another lengthy lay-off despite comprehensively outboxing Mexico’s Adrian Curiel on Saturday night

Galal Yafai “expects” to fight Sunny Edwards next – if Edwards defeats Mexico’s Adrien Curiel on Saturday evening. Edwards, 28, returns from the first defeat of his career – by Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez for the IBF and WBO flyweight titles – tonight when he fights Curiel at the Footprint Center in Phoenix on the undercard of Rodriguez’s WBC super-flyweight title fight with Juan Francisco Estrada.

Galal Yafai believes that he’s banking the experience needed to rip the World titles from the champions, and that continues on Saturday when he defends his WBC International Flyweight title against Agustin Mauro Gauto.

Galal Yafai was never a threat to lose on a night that wasn’t as kind to his former amateur teammate. The unbeaten flyweight remained perfect as a pro after a ten-round, unanimous decision over the spectacularly mustachio’d Rocco Santomauro. Scores were 99-91, 98-93 and 97-93 for Yafai in their DAZN-aired undercard bout Saturday evening at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
