Gabriela Fundora never panicked Saturday night. Christina Cruz outboxed her during the first half of their IBF flyweight title, but the aggressive, patient, stronger Fundora began landing harder shots during the sixth round and took complete control of their 10-round championship clash on
A ten-pound weight allowance was more than enough room for both sides of this weekend’s IBF flyweight title fight. Gabriela Fundora and Christina Cruz were both well within the limit during the same-day weight check ahead of their scheduled ten-round bout. Fundora was 116.4 pounds for the IBF-mandated second-day weigh-in, while Cruz was slightly lighter at 116 pounds. Both boxers were required to weigh no more than 122 pounds to validate their title fight Saturday evening on DAZN from Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona
By Jake Donovan - Undisputed very much remains a short-term goal for Gabriela Fundora. Amanda Serrano continues to make history and print her own money. The record-setting, seven-division titlist achieved another first in a career already destined for the Hall of fame. Serrano became Puerto Rico’s first-ever undisputed champion–male or female—in the multi-belt era with her ten-round, unanimous decision win over Erika Cruz. Their fiercely contested February 4 battle was an instant classic but was just the beginning for the now 35-year-old southpaw.
Marlen Esparza and Gabriela Alaniz are back on the clock. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the WBO has re-ordered the flyweight rematch that was previously parked from earlier this summer. Esparza is once again required to honor her mandatory after it was learned that previous plans fell through for a targeted undisputed championship clash versus IBF titlist Gabriel Fundora.
Another undisputed championship is on the horizon. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the respective teams for Marlen Esparza and Gabriela Fundora are in advanced talks for a fight to fully unify all the flyweight titles. Terms are not yet finalized despite earlier reports of the fight being set in
Opportunity knocked. A pair of fighters answered the door in a big way last weekend. Heading into last weekend, Alexis Rocha had risen in enough esteem at welterweight to be ranked in the top five by both TBRB and Ring Magazine. The WBO ranked him number one while the WBC and IBF both had him in the top ten.
