Grant CEO Rips Rosado Over Golovkin Comments

Elvis Grant Phillips, the CEO of Grant Worldwide, hit back at middleweight contender Gabe Rosado for his recent comments related to the gloves used by WBA/IBO champion Gennady Golovkin during their January fight at the Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden. Rosado, in a recent interview with BoxingScene.com, questioned the nature of the Grant gloves that Golovkin was using. He felt Golovkin was provided with a different type of glove. Rosado took a beating in the fight, which his corner eventually stopped, and Golovin picked up a seventh round TKO victory. "Some people can't handle a loss, but to come back eight or nine months later and start pointing fingers...it's pretty sad," Phillips told BoxingScene.com.

WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin scored a flash knockdown in round two on Gabe Rosado - after that they fought on even terms. Quillin, who was the busier fighter, had just an 8 punch edge in total punches landed. Rosado's cut was wide, but wasn't bleeding excessively. He should have been given an opportunity to continue.

Gabriel Rosado feels like his fight with middleweight titleholder Peter Quillin this past Saturday was stopped prematurely, that the cut over his left eye shouldn’t have led a ringside physician to halt the bout less than a minute into the 10th round. “I feel like boxing is soft nowadays,” Rosado said. “I feel like it needs to go back to the way it was in the ‘80s. This fight never woulda got stopped back in the day. [Arturo] Gatti fought many wars in Atlantic City, got cut, and they let it ride. He was a warrior. You look like a guy like [Jose Luis] Castillo and Chico [Diego Corrales], and those were great fights because they let those guys go.

Middleweight titleholder Peter Quillin is OK with the idea of a rematch with Gabriel Rosado, whom he beat by 10th round technical knockout on Saturday in Atlantic City — though both the stoppage and the scorecards at the time weren’t without controversy. The judges had Quillin ahead 90-80, 89-81 and 87-83 after nine rounds in a bout that seemed to be closer, and which definitely wasn’t a shutout. The fight ended due to a cut over Rosado’s left eye, a wound Rosado and his team felt wasn’t bad enough for a ringside physician doctor to call a halt to the bout. The fight didn’t go to the scorecards — it ended on a cut in the 10th round — but Gabriel Rosado was nonetheless upset about the judging in his technical knockout loss this past Saturday to Peter Quillin. Judge Kason Cheeks had it a shutout for Quillin after nine rounds, at 90-80. Waleska Roldan gave only the fourth round to Rosado and had Quillin ahead 89-81. Ronald McNair gave rounds four, six and eight to Rosado and had Quillin ahead 87-83.

Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City - WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (30-0, 22KOs) had to come from behind as he was being tested by Gabe Rosado (21-7, 13KOs), to score a tenth round TKO, after the ringside doctor stopped the bout due to a cut above Rosado's left eye. They were pretty cautious and picking spots in the first. Quillin was landing harder and scored a flash knockdown in the second. Rosado tried backing Quillin up in the third and trying to land something big. He didn't have much success until the final 30 seconds when he landed a big shot Quillin's chin to wobble him and then he tried to batter him at the bell. Rosado continued to get more confident, coming forward and starting to outwork Quillin in the rounds to come.

Both Peter Quillin and Gabe Rosado feature power shots as a major part of their attacks. 85% of Quillin's landed punches are power shots and 83% of Rosado's landed punches were power shots. Both land above weight class average in that department as well. Quillin has fought at middleweight his entire career. Rosado needs to box and be more accurate with his jab.
