Gabriel Maestre: record, next fight and profile →
At The Armory in Minneapolis, Mykal Fox (22-3, 5 KOs) admits that he was shocked when the scorecards were read for Saturday's FOX televised co-main event, which saw him lose a twelve round unanimous decision to two-time Venezuelan Olympian Gabriel Maestre (4-0, 3 KOs).
At The Armory in Minneapolis, two-time Venezuelan Olympian Gabriel Maestre (4-0, 3 KOs) won a highly controversial unanimous decision over Mykal Fox (22-3, 5 KOs) to capture the interim-WBA welterweight title.
Mykal Fox showed the value of always being ready for any occasion. Unfortunately, it only resulted in history repeating itself. The consummate gym rate from Upper Marlboro, Maryland did his past to make the most of a last-minute opportunity, outboxing two-time Venezuelan Olympian and unbeaten welterweight Gabriel Maestre. Judges John Mariano (115-112), Gloria Martinez Rizzo (117-110) and David Singh (114-113) clearly disagreed, as they were unanimous in favor of Maestre in a WBA “interim” welterweight title fight Saturday evening live on Fox from The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Despite several changes leading to this point, the show is finally ready to go on this weekend. Eimantnas Stanionis and Luis Collazo both made weight for their scheduled 10-round bout just above the welterweight limit, which headlines a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Fox tripleheader Saturday evening, live from The Armory in Minneapolis. The bout marks the second straight Fox show to go head-to-head with the Tokyo Olympics, marking the only televised boxing action from stateside over the two-week period.

COVID-19 has ruined another “FOX PBC Fight Night” main event. BoxingScene.com has learned that Canadian welterweight Cody Crowley has tested positive for coronavirus and withdrew Thursday from his fight against Gabriel Maestre. Crowley (19-0, 9 KOs) and Maestre (3-0, 3 KOs) were set to meet August 7 for the vacant WBA interim welterweight title in a 12-round fight FOX was supposed to televise from The Armory in Minneapolis.
There was a point where Gabriel Maestre believed the third time would be a charm in capturing an Olympic medal. Like many affected by the delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, that dream is left behind in favor of furthering his pro career.
