Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) saw fear when Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs), the WBA's 'regular' champion at junior middleweight, confronted him back in March.
Canelo returned from last September's decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and stopped Alfredo Angulo at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. At the post-fight press conference, Lara confronted Canelo at the dais and challenged him to a fight.
The Mexican boxer says Lara appeared to be intimidated once he got up to the dais and it seemed as if his management was behind the move.
"It did bother me a little, but at the time that he approached me - I found that he was scared, trembling. He didn't seem too sure as to what he was doing. I think that they sent him [up there to confront me]. The people asked for this fight and now the moment is here," Canelo said.
The fight takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on July 12th. Showtime Pay-Per-View will carry the fight.
