Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has revealed that he spoke in length with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury - and they both decided that controversial boxing adviser Daniel Kinahan would not be involved in the negotiations for a two-fight unification deal with Anthony Joshua.

In fact, he won't be involved in any business matters that involve Fury's negotiations for future fights - like the December trilogy with Deontay Wilder.

There has been a lot of controversy since Fury personally thanked Kinahan for his role in helping reach an agreement on the financial terms for a potential unification with Joshua.

In the past, Arum has also praised Kinahan for his help in reaching deals. Kinahan, the founder of management company MTK Global, was instrumental in helping the company land a broadcasting deal with Top Rank and ESPN.

Kinahan sold his share of MTK several years ago, and the company says that he's not involved in their day to day business.

Kinahan, 42-years-old and from Dublin, is now based in the UAE.

While he's never been charged with a crime, in 2018 an Irish High Court ruling alleged that he ran the Kinahan gang, a billion dollar cartel involved in drugs and weapons smuggling.

That same year, a Spanish police officer testified before a court in Marbella and alleged that Kinahan had ordered the murder of gang rival Gary Hutch, on the Costa del Sol in 2015. The killing created a feud that would leave 18 dead.

It's been widely believed that Kinahan was the target of a planned execution when in 2016 gunmen opened fire at a boxing weigh-in at Dublin’s Regency Hotel, killing his friend David Byrne.

There was mounting public pressure to remove his name from the Fury-Joshua encounter - including Sky Sports and BT Sport issuing public statements to distance themselves from Kinahan.

Arum and Fury have also agreed that it's better to remove him from the equation.

"Over the weekend I’ve had a lot of conversations with Tyson Fury and what we both decided is that myself, Top Rank and Fury will do all negotiations for fights in the future," Arum told Gareth Davies of The Daily Telegraph.

"Whether it’s for Joshua or Wilder or anybody else. We’ve informed Eddie Hearn about that. He knows where to go for the negotiations. Tyson and I have had long negotiations about it. That’s the way it’s going to be.

“This will eliminate a lot of confusion. We’ve talked with Dan, who Tyson and I both love and admire and respect, and he understands that it’s best the negotiations on Tyson’s side be handled that way. Both Tyson and I have each discussed this with Dan and he is amenable and satisfied and wished us luck. He only wants the best for Tyson Fury.

“Eddie has been informed of that. First of all there’s the negotiations to finalise for Deontay Wilder. We will do that on Tyson’s behalf with Premier Boxing Champions. But when I say Bob Arum, I mean Top Rank people. We’re one entity. We’re working now with venues in Nevada and in Texas to do that Fury-Wilder sometime in December. And also to negotiate with Eddie and Joshua and with any site that will make a proposal for the Fury-Joshua fight, assuming Joshua beats Pulev and Fury is successful with Wilder.”
