Frankie Gomez improved to 20-0 (13 KO's) this past Friday night at the Fantasy Springs Casino by pitching a shutout over veteran journeyman, Silverio Ortiz, over ten rounds. Overall, the effort pleased his trainer.

"He did OK," Freddie Roach said to BoxingScene.com,"I mean, he's getting back to his correct weight class and he looked really good through ten rounds and picked it up at the end for me a little bit and he was in with a really tough guy, a durable guy, he upset a lot of people. But Frankie won every round, he did OK."

As for what Roach wants to see more of, he explained,"His jab, he had a great jasb and he didn't work behind it enough . He could've worked that jab a lot more and that's going to help him out a lot."

For this fight Gomez made the 145-pound weight limit but the goal is to eventually have him fight as a full-fledged junior welterweight and make a title run at 140.

"I think by the next figth we'll be right at 140,"said Roach, who later this week will be leaving for the Philippines to work with Manny Pacquiao in preparation for his April 9th bout versus Tim Bradley."One win there and then a top ten guy at 140, for sure."
