Welterweight Frankie Gavin is looking for a fresh start after sorting out his recent personal problems. Gavin, 26, has returned to Birmingham after having problems in Manchester and London. Gavin, who put in two lackluster performances and withdrew from his last contest in October, which put him at odds with promoter Frank Warren, hopes to make things right on February 25th in Cardiff.
Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin will meet Scottish southpaw Gary McMillan on the undercard of Nathan Cleverly’s WBO light-heavyweight title defence against Tommy Karpency at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on February 25. The bout was scheduled to take place at Hull City Hall, with the winner to have become the mandatory challenger to BBBofC welterweight champion Colin Lynes. Witter was gutted by Gavin’s decision to pull out, and now awaits his next move. “It’s disappointing that Gavin has pulled out of our fight next week,” said the former WBC world super lightweight champion. “Him being a former amateur star and me being a former world champion, it would have been one hell of a fight, but one that I know I would have own."
Frank Warren has warned Frankie Gavin he will not fight again until he has addressed his personal issues.
