Adrian Estrella continues the transformation from prospect to contender, as his team has agreed to terms for a showdown with recent super featherweight title challenger Fernando Saucedo.
The bout will take place on December 6 in Monterrey, Mexico, according to Estrella’s promoter, Promociones del Pueblo.
Both fighters appeared in separate bouts on October 4, with their results going in opposite directions.
The 22-year old Estrella (19-0, 17KOs) registered the most significant win of his career, flooring and dominating former two-division titlist Celestino Caballero en route to a landslide decision win in the Televisa-televised chief support to Jhonny Gonzalez’ one-sided 11th round stoppage of Jorge Arce.
Things didn’t go quite as well for Saucedo (52-6-3, 8KO), who came up miserably short in a 130 lb. title bid versus Rances Barthelemy in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The bout was his second crack at a major title, also dropping a decision to Chris John in their Dec. ’10 featherweight bout in Indonesia.
Saucedo fights outside of his native Argentina for the second straight time. Overall, the 32-year old is 0-4-1 on the road, though adviser Samson Lewkowicz has vowed that his charge will “surprise all of Mexico and convincingly beat Estrella.”
The bout will air live on Televisa.
