Aside from not being common the .45 gap is actually a smart idea.
The original .45 ACP is old. The case had to be so big because of older less efficient powders.
Now with modern powders u need less to provide same power.
That's why .45 gap is so much smaller than .45 ACP even though they use the same bullets and fire same velocity.
A .45 gap fits in 9mm/.40 size guns. You don't need a .45/10mm size gun like you do .45 acp.
