The footage will be saved to the DVR, which comes with the security camera. You run the camera cabling to the DVR then and HDMI cable from the DVR to the TV/Monitor. You can also get wireless cameras but you have to remember to change the batteries on those every 6 months or so and you can link it to your phone with an app. All camera systems come with an app so you can view it while you're away. They also offer some type of cloud storage so if your DVR gets stolen or broken you can still view the footage saved on the cloud. All you gotta do is have internet service at home
