  • In memory of Lucjan Trela

Lucjan Trela died today in Stalowa wola, Poland.

I know probably noone ever heard of Him, but he has a special place in my heart and was one of the reasons I started watching boxing. My Dad was an avid boxing fan and I was watching TV transmission from amateur events with my Dad being a small kid.

He competed in the men's heavyweight event at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico and was remembered from great 3 rounds against Big George Foreman (the only one whom George did not stop in the Olympic tournament). He was only 172 cm tall (5'7") and was the shortest HW I've ever heard of. I remember watching him fighting and winning against much taller guys.
