Watch Eddie Hearn get tongue twisted trying to explain why Showtime got Whyte-Chisora
Collapse

So...
“Joshua’s next fight doesn’t have to be on DAZN” and...
“Could be on Showtime”
Yet Hearn constantly says if Wilder wants to fight AJ... “it has to be on DAZN”.
Blatant contradiction.... -
Because DAZN will match any Showtime offer. Didn't you hear him say that?Comment

dazn probably crunched the numbers and realised that overseas fights are not really driving subscriptions in the US and it wasnt worth it to pay a large sum on whyte vs chisora II.
Would be interested to know how high the fee is to get the broadcasting rights for that fight and overseas fights in general.Comment

Win-Win for Hearn. If DAZN bought the fight it would have come out of Hearns DAZN budget.
The question is why would Showtime want the Whyte-Chisora fight?Comment

Depends on how much that sum was IMO, but I guess it was enough to not have them interested.
I can't see how they thought this fight wouldn't drive sales of the DAZN app, but in the same token they have Big Baby Miller vs Adamek on DAZN like anyone cared about that one.
I get the logic that Miller is a USA fighter, mostly fights in the USA so it's easier to promote the USA fighter in theory, but in the same breath people just want exciting competitive fights more than anything and Whyte-Chisora 2 fits the bill as exciting and competitive more than Miller-Adamek.Comment

Why not? They probably had some money left on their budget and that doesn't get carried over to the following year.Comment
