    Canelo v GGG Revisited

With the big rematch just a few days away I thought I'd rewatch the first fight. To this day I do not understand how Byrd score it 9-3 for Canelo or any Golovkin fan scored it 8-4 (or worse), but I also recognize how significant biases can be related to fandom.

Here are a few links to watch the fight. One is HBO HD and one is Russian to help take some of the Lederman/Merchant/Lampley bias out of things.

    1 - Canelo (swing round)
    2 - Canelo
    3 - Canelo
    4 - GGG
    5 - GGG
    6 - GGG (swing round)
    7 - GGG
    8 - Canelo
9 - GGG (GGG's best round even though Canelo landed biggest single punch)
    10 - Canelo (swing round)
11 - GGG (weak argument for swing round)
    12 - Canelo

Aside from the swing rounds mentioned I can't see any round being scored the other way. Crazy some people call this fight a "robbery". These are the fans that we need out of boxing tbh

They fight again in literally 4 days. Nothing wrong with bringing it back up prior to the rematch

I had basically the same scorecard except that I gave Canelo the 6th and GGG the 8th.

Yeah there were a couple of those rounds, but all the whiners crying robbery must be topping off Lampley, Merchant, and Lederman. Their cards/calls were horrendous

I suggest you to re watch the third round closely.

How about re-watching the 8th! I don't think compubox always tells the story but this was the 2nd most clear round according to it (21 to 11 landed that round), so is a perfect example.

Saul landed a really nice upper-cut that round, but 1/2 the round he was on his bike & GGG was tagging him throughout, even landing a couple upper-cuts of his own & an overhand right. They both missed quite a bit or were blocked.

                  Canelo 1/18 jabs
                  GGG 12/36 jabs

                  Canelo 10/22 power
                  GGG 9/30 power

Maybe you're thinking Saul landed more power that round, but you're totally discounting the jab work Gennady did, not to mention his own power that landed.

Your card is the same as mine except for the 1st & the 8th.

Now onto the controversy, all the judges gave Canelo rnd 11, you didn't. Add rnd 1 to that & it's 8-4 Golovkin. It's the Byrd card that causes some to claim a robbery because it's a totally ridiculous card no matter who scores it. I wouldn't put 8-4 scored a draw necessarily a robbery, but I still think it was a clear win, add to that Trella gave Canelo rnd 7 that neither of us or any other judge gave him...it looks like the deck was stacked against GGG.
