We all know that no fighter has ever come close to matching Marciano's record of 49-0 in the only division that records count and in the era of all time greats like Joe Louis. However, in 1969 an old, retired Rocky Marciano donned a wig and stepped in with Muhammad Ali for an exhibition bout which by today's standards would be a professional fight since there was no headgear. In the match, Marciano lands a signature left hook and KO's Ali. The fight could not be sanctioned because Ali had been stripped of his Boxing license for dodging the draft and refusing to fight for his country.
In today's Boxing game, money talks and they will allow fights to be licensed matching World Champions with opponents who have never even competed in an amateur Boxing match, and still count towards their official record.
Marciano while completely inactive, old and out of shape KO'd an undefeated Heavyweight, largely considered the Greatest of All Time, while he was the lineal and undefeated Heavyweight World Champion and this is supposed to not count to his record? It's time to recognize the truth.
Rocky Marciano. 50-0. Greatest of All Time.
