Which modern day European country would you say has the most right to brag about its historical and modern accomplishments?
Italy- Descendant of the Roman Empire, gave the world plenty in fine arts and its share of revolutionaries from Davinci, Michaelangelo, to Christopher Columbus. They established the Catholic Church, which would have profound effect on Europe. Today they are at the forefront of fashion, food, and exotic cars.
Britain - Birthplace of the industrial revolution, and a king colonizer. At one point the sun did not set on the British Empire. They are a large reason that English has now become a universal language. Today they are leaders in entertainment from music to cinema.
Greece - Western Civilization started with Greece. The first prominent thinkers and philosophers from Plato to Socrates were Greek. The idea of Democracy began here and that idea forever shaped Europe and to a large extent the world. Greece also became the inherent ruler of the Byzantine Empire and influenced all of Eastern Europe with Christianity. Today they are reduced to a beggar nation.
Germany - The folks who once lived in present day Germany were the first ones responsible for sacking the Roman Empire and inheriting its legacy as the "Holy Roman Empire". The Germans have always been at the forefront of innovation and invention. Today they are the backbone of Europes economy, and an absolute leader of industry and sport. Producing well known brands from Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi to Adidas, Puma, Siemens, and countless others.
Spain - The first pioneers of the new world. Spain is credited for discovering or re discovering the Americas. Spains wealth and power during the Middle Ages was almost unrivaled. Their forces conquered most of South and North America. Their tongue is the native language to more nations than any other country. Today Spain is a middling country with an extremely developed football program.
