  • Why do 99% of boxers have perfectly sculpted pecs but no thick neck?

Your chest muscles arnt gonna do bugger all for you, they barely add to punching power or help in the clinch. They might look nice if you are a gay man but thats about it.

Yet every boxer I see practiacally, especially the ones that weight train have highly muscled bodies but their neck has barely changed in size at all.

Every boxer does countless abdominal exercises yet they do relitively few sets and reps for neck exercises.

Your neck helps you take a shot, look at Tysons neck, thats what every heavyweights neck should look like. Its not that hard to get a thick neck wrestlers do it more often than boxers.

In order of importance in boxing.....

    1 skill

2 the ability to take a shot to the body OR THE HEAD

    3 endurance

    4 power

    5 strength

    6 pretty looking muscles

with some people nice looking muscles just form due to exercise. push-ups etc. i am sure genetics have at least a little to do with it.

Wrestlers and boxers have completely different body types.

Of course wrestlers have thick necks, they are usually stockier builds.

Different muscles. Wrestlers need strong necks to pull, push, get yanked on, etc... You could argue boxers could benefit ftom such a neck but that type of training develops a flexible neck due to all the head movement and rolling with punches (my guess...f uck if I know makes sense though). Boxers tend to have good traps/overall crazy backs and average sized necks That and genes I guess. Whatever its too early for this!

Oh wait its 10 just kidding

Plenty of boxers with thick necks. Also, just because someone isn't muscular or cut, doesn't mean they aren't powerful. Mayweather's neck is very powerful, yet it doesn't have to look like he is a middle linebacker for the Broncos.

your chest will help you in a clinch, for the record. your back pulls back, your chest pushes and squeezes forward.

almost all of your favorite HW build their chests, along with everything else. if you keep your reps high you can build the right kind of muscle for those situations that will help you over the course of a 12 round boxing match.

your favorite weight class boxers generally do not build their bodies up with weight lifting, unless they're moving up in weight. that will slow you down and add weight that will keep you out of your optimal weight class.
the sculpted body that you see ona weight class boxer is boiled down. it is not built up. that chest is what yours would look like if you were a gifted athlete who has next to no body fat and a well conditioned upper body from boxing.

the size of a neck of anybody is usually in proportion to the rest of his body. you aren't going to see a flyweight with a 19 inch neck. most boxers have thick necks for their body weight anyway. most people forget that most boxers weigh in at a hell of a lot less than the weight at which your average man will walk around.

my suggestion for you TS, because i see you making dumb threads pretty regularly: if you want to box, shut up and listen to your coach. don't try and overhaul a game you know very little about.

Shed loads of boxers past & present with thick necks.

Tyson, Holyfield, Tua, RJJ, James Toney, Gamboa, Pascal etc etc

Its probably least noticeable in the lower weights as its going to be awfully hard for a guy say below 154 to have prominent traps/a noticeably thick neck.

Also a bigger muscle isn't always a stronger muscle.

The defined chest for boxers comes from bag work more than weight lifting. Most elite boxers do some kind of neck strength exercises but there's no proof that it helps with punch resistance.

Lots of boxers do exercises for their neck including Mayweather and Khan[didn't help much].
