As for when they tried to steal Greb's car... are you referring to the tall tale of the 4 robbers who blocked the road, when Greb was on his way to one of his fights? Where Greb calmly stepped out of the car, flattened all 4... and then drove on to the next town, where he (of course!) scored his 5th ko that night?

Great stories... that should be taken with a pinch of salt!
i story wwhen 7 robbers tried to steal it,he steped from bar and when police arrived there was blood everywhere, then Greb saw little girl crying outside of police station,it wwas doughter of one of robbers.Greb withdraw accusations, cuse he beaten them allready, and his great man.

fake or not when story like this is araund about you,you
    need to be ****ing legend

but doesnt it take a way from Dempsey legacy?
The Wills wins over Langford fo not mean much. Sam was going blind and aging rapidly because of the so many fights.

Wills was a giant, and I am confident prime on prime he would have prevailed over little Sam. There fights were not prime on prime however.

It could also detract from the legacy of Dempsey in the minds of those take partial evidence and treat it like the final word, that Dempsey was KO'd in the first round by Fireman Jim Flynn. Never mind that version of Dempsey was totally raw and starving on the streets of the eastern seaboard at the time, and later returned the favor by KOing Flynn in one round..

Hey, pal, do you take to heart every apocryphal story you read? Do you even know what an apocryphal story is? Find out. This is a history section, not an ancient rumor mill.

It wasn't Dempsey that didn't want to fight him it was Dempsey's promoter that prevented the fight from happening. He didn't want another Jack Johnson fiasco. Dempsey would have mopped the floor with Wills to be honest. Nobody really thinks Wills would have one they just think he was the top contender for the title. Matter of fact nobody in Dempsey's era (during his prime) could really have hung with him.

Lol that is the crusty lefty I know and love. Wills the giant after being insulted in a bar in Montreal by a group of 4 patrons chased them out, as they entered their volkswagon bug to take off, on the snow and ice, Wills grabbed the back of the vehicle and calmly turned it on its side while screaming in an enrages fashion....causing his antagonists to have an accident, or two! Oh wait that was Andre the giant!! not Wills the giant!

The Wills Dempsey situation is hard to deconstruct folks: Hard to separate some of the prevailing rascist agendas, financial agendas...Dempsey was perhaps boxings first consisitant superstar and gate attraction. He was managed in that fashion...and while he liked to play rough, his team probably would not want him to risk his currency at any provocation. So while Dempsey may have been a mensch and even color blind (not sure if he was, or not) the people behind him were not!

And what of Wills? Very disparate picture of "The Black Panther." he started late, as a replacement for a friend who had the gifts... some thought him very talented, but he had a habit of being inconsistant. All and all, there were some black fighters who were cute enough to maybe outfox the Manassa Mauler, I don't know if Wills was one of them, probably not.

Sugar thats totally illogical! Its hard to say how the skill sets of Wills would match up against Dempsey because of the causitive reason being the color of Wills skin? How would the color of Wills determine the relative degree of difficulty assessing his boxing game compared to Dempsey's?

The point that Dempsey did not fight Black Fighters, as an aside is certainly a good one. I attribute a lot of this to Dempsey's management, but alas Jack does share responsability for this.
