For 1.5 M? When he had a guaranteed purse of 10+ millions against Canelo. Please.

          Doubt it.

At the end of the day, Canelo might be the bigger star but his reputation and credibility has taken a hit in recent months, actually since most people thought he got a gift, and then testing positive. Due to that, he needs to redeem himself and the only real way was to make the rematch. The public weren't going to settle for anything else.

Golden Boy have basically overpaid due to damage control. That's basically all it is. Make no mistake, GGG might need this fight financially, but Canelo needs it just as much, for other reasons. Maybe even more right now. That's why they kept making offers. GGG had more leverage this time.

Nah, Tom Loeffler is too much of a beta to go against another promoter. Dude is a total pushover

First and foremost, GBP didn’t agree to GGG 45% split demands MGM Grand resorts did. A few outlets have reported that MGM resorts agreed to match the 2.5% more GGG was seeking by raising the ticket prices for the fight. So in the end of the day the people who end up getting Foookk is the fans because of GGG greed.

You don't have proof that Oscar didn't raise his offer. He said he sent a new offer and saved the fight.

"The fight was taking place in Moscow, because Povetkin's promoter Andrei Ryabinsky won the purse bid earlier this year to secure the promotional rights. As part of that bid, Wilder was set to receive $4.6 million."

Wilder won the initial civil suit in Feb 2017 for $4.5m from the canceled fight that was being held in escrow.

"Earlier today, "The Bronze Bomber" won his civil case against Team Povetkin following the latter’s failed test for meldonium, laying claim to the $4.5 million purse previously placed in escrow."

Povetkin won the appeal a couple months later in April 2017. He sued for $34m for defamation but only recouped $4.3m from that original case.

"According to representatives from Forward Legal, working for Povetkin and his promoter's company, World of Boxing, a New York court issued an aware of $4.3 million which was being held in escrow - in connected to their canceled fight from May 2016."

Meldonium is a far cry from clenbuterol so I believe Golovkin would of had an even harder time winning any substantial amount of money. Wilder received very little & I feel his case was much stronger.

I think it had more to do with GGG being the biggest money fight for Canelo, and also an attempt to restore reputation after the PED drama.
