  • How do the mechanics of the right hook differ from the straight (if at all)right

    ?

Do you use leg drive for the right hook or only for teh straight right?

If you do use leg drive on the right hook doesn't that make it half right cross half right hook? Some kind of horrible merger? The leg is trying to send the force in a linear direction forward and its a purely circular right hook punch?

was that a right hook or a short right cross?

Jackson uses leg drive for the right hook

You use your legs for every punch

Hook just adds some power with upper body rotation

Cross is faster leaves you open for a shorter period

If you don't use your legs in every punch you are a weak **** and will be crushed

It's also easier to knock someone out by hitting the side rather than flat on even with the exact same amount of force thus the reasons for staying open longer to throw a hook

Human neck muscles are very strong and absorb a ton of back/front shock but you have almost no strength against lateral shock... (Think of the muscular resistance of a head butt, vs the muscular resistance of shaking your head "no", almost zero), and lack of resistance means direct shock to the brain=KO

if he took that punch as a cross flat on the nose with no head turning it definitely would have backed him up but probably no kd

This makes sense for a LEFT hook, where the leg if used makes the force go directly to the right rather than circular

But its the RIGHT HOOK! The leg is producing force in a linear direction forward (unlike with the left hook)

It feels weird to add forward force to a circular punch, it seems pointless because unlike the left hook where the circular force is kinda going with the direction of the leg drive with the right hook its going in completely a different direction.

So with the left hook the 2 forces can join and create something more powerful, because they are almost going in the same direction and the difference in direction takes far less away from the power than the leg adds to it.

But with the right hook its different theres not a slight difference of direction theres a large difference of direction, so much so that you end up with a punch that doesn't know if its a hook or a cross.

I already know how to fix this problem. But I need to get an answer from you guys to learn the proper boxing way of doing it.
