  • The Myth That GGG Has 20 Title Defenses

These morons count his title defenses when he was the WBA interim/regular champion. A fake belt that no one cares about.

He was finally elevated to WBA Champion on November 2012 after Daniel Geale got stripped and since then only defended the title 15 times, and one of them was a draw.

That "fight" against Vanes shouldn't have counted anyways. Dude isnt a middleweight.

At least they were all against different guys. I couldn't imagine the **** he would've gotten if he rematched any of the guys he beat, aside from maybe Jacobs, who I still think he beat 7-5. But up until Jacobs, could you think of the ****storm if he fought someone like Geale 3 times and Monroe twice, or whoever else in whatever 3/2 variation? Hopkins record, while still impressive nonetheless, is a bit overstated.

Like the way you say 'only' 15 times...lol! If GGG wasn'ht screwed over by his german promoters early on then he would have broke the record easy, so STFU please.

I am not sure being "elevated" can even count. You have to win a title in the ring, being awarded one for being a good boy stinks.

Its safer to count from beating Lemieux onwards.

However if you are counting from the title he was given outside the ring (Geale onwards ) then thats 9 defences, not 15. Still very respectable, mind you -

              Vanes
              Alvarez
              Jacobs
              Brook
              Wade
              Lemieux
              Monroe
              Murray
              Rubio

That list is about 50% world level or above.

FInally worth mentioning he is not finished and can still make double figures defences one day.

Although he beat a post prime Geale, fighting geale twice more when he was fully shot would be a joke. Fighting Monroe once is a joke. Such would be nothing like hopkins defences.

9 times. but a draw is still a defence.

What happens to Hopkins record if you remove guys who aren’t middleweights?
