  • Comments Thread For: Arum: Linear/Stream Combo Gives ESPN Advantage Over DAZN

On Tuesday, BoxingScene.com's Keith Idec first reported that Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Alvarez reached a mega-million, multi-fight deal with DAZN. The deep pocketed streaming service made their American debut in September with Anthony Joshua's knockout victory over Alexander Povetkin serving as their first main event.

arum has a solid point. dazn only has dazn to pump their major fights. massive advantage to have an espn or a showtime pumping an event during other popular programming.

He's right. You can't eliminate the linear (television) platform altogether or boxing would become extinct. Marketing and promotion is very important in attracting awareness and interest to the sport and what better platform to do that other than television?

AJ & Canelo dont need no stinking advertising.

If you don't get the reference YOU are not on my level.

Perhaps you are right. That's why it's good that AJ and Canelo are hedging early. This is a new platform and only time will reveal its true success.

ESPN has an advantage with their Cable & Streaming broadcasts,
but ESPN is also at a disadvantage by being stuck with Top Rank.
It doesn't matter how many homes you reach if you have nothing
worthwhile to reach them with. Top Rank has a handful of interesting
fighters, but they've got nobody to match them against. Top Rank
can only hope that one of the rival networks will be generous enough
to consider working jointly with ESPN to make these fights happen.
It's not out of the question, but it's not exceedingly likely, either.
Showtime has worked with a rival network in the past, but I don't
think public demand for Spence-Crawford is great enough to warrant
            that type of partnership yet.

Showtime's streaming application is just under $11.00 per month.

What is Top Ranks best in-house fight possible???

I'm gonna say maybe Crawford Vs. Lomachenko @ some weird weight. (Hypothetical) right???

Now that Manny is gone Bobby is kinda running out of ideas, He will be forced to work with the OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET with the unseen boss of all bosses.

Maybe even Crawford Vs. (PBC) Pacquiao with Pax against Arum... oh sheit!!!

ESPN can promote ESPN events on any of their channels,
and probably on other Disney-owned channels,
but DAZN can also buy advertising on TV, magazines, radio,
websites, and elsewhere. They already seem to be doing
a reasonable job of promoting their service as I've recently
been seeing many television commercials for DAZN in Canada.
