I’m a huge Mikey and Spence fan but beating Spence doesnt get Canelo out of number 1 who beat a top p4p kingpin. It doesnt usurp Loma’s status especially without fighting him. It doesnt surpass Usyk’s run. It doesn’t surpass Bud’s run.

He’s got to beat Loma and THEN we’re talking.

As much as I like Mikey, I also have to keep in mind the work the others have put in. Only Mikey stands to gain from a win but he doesnt become #1 p4p. Easy there

errol spence is ranked #1 at ww on any decent list. the guy is an enormous welterweight, and there has been no better win in boxing for a while than a garcia win over spence.

to give you an idea of the difference in size between these two, spence debuted as a JMW and fought at 150 lbs all the way back in 2012. garcia debuted at 131 and he fought as light as 123.5 as a pro. he was a championship level featherweight. errol spence is a big, strong welterweight who will be a JMW or maybe even a MW when his career is done.

if garcia beats spence soundly it will be one of the best performances in boxing since rigondeaux shut out nonito donaire when he was one of the best fighters in the world.

only way he would not be is if he won in some freekish way like a DQ or an injury. If Mikey wins a legit decision or stops Spence, how could he not be #1?

It cant just be a size difference thing. Look at Canelo in his next fight for example. Beating Spence is impressive but Mikey has been at 140. Its not some random jump. Not only that but it’s not even unheard of to jump from 35 to 47 in one go.

If it would have been Thurman I’d give more credit because Thurman is the top WW. Spence may well be the best, but he might not be and we dont know because he’s not making meaningful 47 fights.

Gotta disagree. Ggg is a better win and unifying the entire division (bud and usyk) is just kore impressive, ESPECIALLY if Mikey beats him.

It’s a double edged sword. Mikey is that good but Spence isn’t/never was if it ends that way.

GGG was proven at his weight. Bud has been proven prior. Loma has proven. Canelo has proven. Spence has not at his and thus doesnt get you a p4p # 1 spot when you beat him.

If Mikey wins, yes, he's pound for pound #1. Hands down.

Top 3. Arguments can be made for Loma (Providing he wins tonight) and Crawford at #1. Spence isn’t a top 5 P4P IMO.
