And yep, Naz had Margarito do a rewrap as well, but that was a little different since sheets of plaster fell out when Margarito had to be re-wrapped
Do you think the 1st Cotto fight would have been different?

And why aren't all cornermen diligent like Naz?

My personal opinion, I do feel it would have been different. There was something about the hunks of plaster, I think they said, that made it seem like they were used before. He should have been stripped of all of his wins. Sounds harsh, but if you consider that had he used them, he should have landed in jail....

I'm not sure why more cornermen aren't as diligent. I think it was an eye opener and hopefully they are now. I mean, Adonis Stephenson, unfortunately, is a reminder of what can happen in this "game." If I were a cornerman, I'd be a pain in the ass to protect the fighter!

        I agree about Cotto fight.
I think Margarito had his wraps vs Kermit Cintrón. I think he destroyed Cintron's career as he was never the same.

I always thought that both Margarito and Trinidad had strange straight punches that did far more damage then they should have. I agree Margarito should have had his whole career erased.

There are quite a few photos of Dempsey in his hand wraps, gloveless, prior to the bout. All you see are typical hand wraps of the period. Nothing special or different.

They definitely didn't look like Willard's wraps. But it doesn't matter. We know what the man who wrapped his hands said. I would think you'd take his word since you always go by what those around at that time said. Whose word would be more accurate than the man who wrapped him up?

The hand wraps controversy has been proven time and again. There were people from Willard's corner present while Dempsey had his hands wrapped. They escorted him to the ring the entire time, watched his hands get gloved up. There was not "magic" tape that suddenly hardened inside the gloves. Nothing illegal went on. The entire plaster concept was disproven as well. When a journalist attempted to duplicate the method of plastering his wraps the way it was described by Dempsey's former manager, it proved to be a lie. The plaster crumbled to dust to the touch.

But, just like other fairly tales, there are detractors, haters and casuals who believe myths over proven facts. What else can you except to allow them to wallow in ignorance for the rest of their sorry lives.

A lot of the veteran trainers will watch the wraps. Its a great way to also screw with the opposition.

Travesty your in the New York Area yes? Billy Martin is one of my all time favorite sports heroes...he would sign autographs for us as kids. This is an example of the same kind of "game' being run on the royals. Just a smart way to disrupt and deny the Royals! Just like inspecting the wraps.

The use of adhesive tape was fully within the rules.

Still no word on why the man who wrapped his hands would lie, or why a man watching said specifically it was bicycle tape, huh?

Let me ask you. Had Dempsey used bicycle tape before? Because he was asked not to for Tunney, and for the fight after the Willard fight, if I remember correctly.

Seems that you're wrong, yet again.
