Fleischer attended the bout in Havana. In the 50's he wrote how hot it was that day. Blazing sun and blistering heat. In the 70's?.... hardly.

Looks like you are one more who bought Johnson's the BS; that old man Fleischer did nothing but tell stories he was clueless about. (Good magazine though, but he was constantly full of ****.)

It simply doesn't get that hot in Havana, ever. 90+ days are rare, there is no history of a 100+ day.

Check out the average temperatures for Havana Cuba:

      http://www.holiday-weather.com/havana/averages/

But more importunately this is a footnote from Arty Allen's book, Jess Willard, Heavyweight Champion

The day of the fight the Havana Daily Post had the temperature at 70.7 F and 21.5 C

Check out BoxRec's Johnson-Willard's fight page - there is no mention of the heat. They are the only ones who got it figured out.

Who are you going to believe a self-aggrandizing old man telling war stories, or the local newspaper's daily temperature?

It is a classic factoid, one of the fight game's biggest!

P.S. I did say it was humid that day, wanted to rain, so if you factor in the humidity the temp goes up, but no 101 with a blazing sun, that's pure BS that everyone keeps alive; where ever he is, Jack Johnson must be laughing his ass off.

P.S.S. Check out the pics from the fight, the fans are still wearing their jackets.

FACTOID: After 1910, the Johnson-Jeffries fight film was never viewed again (because of the violence it caused) until the repeal of the Sims Act in 1940.

FACT: The infamous Johnson-Jeffries fight film was re-shown in 1921, in Chicago, without incident.

Text Rickard paying a series of bribes and fines (to get pass the Sims Law) was able to get the Dempsey-Carpentier fight shown in Chicago. Realizing that audiences expected a double feature for their two-bits, and because he owned he copyright to the film, Rickard presented the 1910 Johnson-Jeffries fight as well as the Carpentier fight. The fight was viewed for multiple weeks without incident. The audiences, who were all-in to see Dempsey fight, barely noticed the Johnson/Jeffries fight. Not only was there no violence, the film's presentation went virtually unnoticed.

Its presentation was only mentioned by the newspapers as an after thought. It's amazing how much can change in only 11 years.

P.S. On the other hand the Dempsey-Carpentier fight was very noticed by the newspapers and left the Federal Government with egg on its face. Two years later Rickard couldn't pull off his magic again with Dempsey-Firpo and the Feds confiscated his film.

Factoid: Angelo Dundee cheated to buy precious minutes (up to five of them) when he slit Clay's glove against Cooper.

What about George Foreman's plan to beat Michael Moorer, folks. Fact or factoid? What he executed, or what he dreamed up later of planning?

That's how he became a legend. On that one performance he hopes to enter the HOF.
