  • lower back 'popped' during kettlebell training..any tips on fast recover?

I was using kettlebells this morning and on the last rep of the last set i felt a 'pop' in my lower back n now im in loads of pain
I'm icing it every 30mins, drank a protein shake and on pain killers, anyone got any tips to help recovery? I want to be better by end of the week really

the way some of these guys describe their sensations during training is funny; the 1st guy said there was an inner explosion in his body and this guy says his lower back popped lol. The reason its funny is because if you describe it to a doctor or whoever is treating you, you must wonder what they write up in the medical report.

Anyway TS, how does it feel when you stretch you lower back? Can you pick something up without feeling any strange pain? Does your back feel any weaker and last go by your gut. Does it feel injured? Could you give a confident guess that its injured 60pct or up? If so go to your doctor. If not ice it, massage it, stretch it and do not work that area of the body but make sure to stay active to keep blood circulating.

        stretch out your hamstrings.

it lets you use your hips more then your lower back when you pick things up.

Kettlebells are down right dangerous IMO. I've heard so many stories like this or people injuring their shoulders with them. any how I've had lower back issues most of my life and I know it sucks but all you can do is rest it and do what you have been doing alternate the ice with heat use ibprofin or motrin for the inflimation etc.. if you have access to an inversion table try it I bought one and when my back goes out I use it and it seems to speed the recovery. feel better....

Thanks for the advice guysits really helpful..
It is definately injured, i can barely sit without pain let alone pick something up, ill keep icing and applying heat.
Cheers for the advice on stretchin hamstrings that makes sense. I'll give it a couple days and if it don't get better I'll go physio. Bummer is I do alot of driving at work..the pain of switching gears! Lol

Ive had bad lower back problems for years then like 2 months ago i read that tight ham strings force the hips down and locked in place causing you to allways use your lower back when bending and lifting.

Ive been stretching each hamstring for a bout 30 seconds every day and i havnt had back problems since. some days after a hard work out ill feel it getting tight in the lower back so ill just stretch my hamstrings again and the tighness is gone by the next day.
