Yeah he was just as hated if not more, but what's interesting is that once he retired all these "haters" jumped on his d"ck and acted like they were fans from day 1. Expect the exact same thing to happen with Mayweather once he retires and the sport isn't nearly as entertaining or interesting as it was during his prime/career.

Wishful thinking mayweather is getto trash like most of his fan base and will be forgotten ,you are trying to associate may to Ali but fail to realize that Ali was hated for his political views, activism, and beliefs. People hate may because he is getto trash that promotes black stereotypes and makes blacks look like fools. As far as icon status mayweather not even close, if fighters like Duran,Leonard,Chavez etc are not considered world wide icons wth makes you think may is?

Yes and no. He didn't have all the legendary fights that they had, nor the same interesting personality, but when it comes to the ring, then I consider him above both of them (and that means a lot, they're my two favourite boxers).

Why would what one person does be applied to an entire race?

LOL @ one of the GOATS and the best of the last 20 years just being forgotten. Ali was hated for his beliefs, but the main reasons were that he was brash, ****y and black. The same reasons as Money Mayweather and once he retires most of the haters will change and claim they were fans since day 1. It's already starting to happen now, a lot of people have changed their minds about him. Mayweather has the highest PPV numbers ever and can do speaking engagements all around the world and get paid more than anyone else. He's the biggest name in boxing period.

No. Ali and Tyson were HW's and both were and are universally recognizable icons. Just about every sports fan around the world would recognize them. Floyd just isn't up there at all. The closest thing from this period would be De La Hoya.

I am talking global star power. Not boxing resume.

I understand you guys but it just feels different to me. Obviously its was completely different time and everything is different.

Its just that why Floyd is a huge celebrity and has clearly transcended the sport, Ali and Tyson, again as HWT champs, occupied a completely different space in the public eye IMO.
