The reason why is because there are NO Divorce in the Philippines.
Malta and Philippines are the only countries left in the world which still prohibit divorce.
Filipinos are the most hardcore Catholics in the world.
Remember the movie Goodfellas that was directed by Martin Scorsese? The gangster's attitude toward women in Goodfellas is medieval. Women take care of the children and is a companion to their husband but are essentially inconsequential to the Family business.
Some nights are reserved by the goodfellas for their wives, and some days for the mistresses. Henry's (the main character) wife temporarily rebels against this reality and threatens to shoot his husband if he continues seeing his mistress.
Henry abandons her wife. But the mob family head, who sounds like a parish priest, orders Henry to return home to his wife.
Divorces are frowned upon; one simply cannot get outside the Mafia family circle, just like in the Philippines.
