First of all, all of what was written was very good (Did you write that?) VEry well put...
But notwithstanding your very Christian-centric views. Nothing wrong with it if you can transcend your beliefs with others instead of putting them down. I am proponent of buddhism also but there's many flaws in it because you have only read it and not really know what it is.
Buddhism is a subset of Hinduism....Buddhism can be said that it is more of a Philosophy more than a "religion" because of it's "middle path" (Sanskrit: madhyamā-pratipad).
But the first and most glaring flaw was that you have "written" (or maybe copied and pasted it from somewhere) that Sidharta Gautama "founded" buddhism....he didn't.
There was no agenda just like the Roman Catholic Church wherein ROME (largely a copy-cat culture from the Greeks which are "pagan" used Catholicism as a political and unifying force due to rebellion...thus the word CATHOLIC is GREEK for UNIVERSALITY....a campaign later when around the time of the Council of Nicea - Constantine in 325 a.d.)
Sidharta was simply "enlightened" and was revealed being an ascetic and meditator - THE WAY. It is an eightfold path called the dharma. These are general concepts that can be found in ALL RELIGIONS but from the outside it may seemed generic but they do have the detailed pranayama and samadhi (energy and deep meditation)....detailed meditations that Jesus himself also learned while in India and Tibet. During his meditations in the dessert of 40 days and nights, that is exactly what had happened where he met his "Mara" or "Maya" (delusions) in the form of the Devil...
You see we're talking about semantics here Sir James. The buddhis have as much contribution to our enlightment path as well as the christians...and we haven't even discussed the Hindus.
Buddhism was never "founded" by it's leader in Sidharta...he was a proponent of Hinduism deified by his followers as much as Christ have never founded Christianity while being a proponent of Judaism and deified by his followers.
In Sanskrit, both are majaavatars...Sentient beings from God. Re-Incarnation of God.
Both spoke of their source, The FAther as much as the father is manifested on the incarnated "son"...through Jesus and Buddha. Buddhism isn't against this or that, they choose the MIDDLE PATH wherein Christianity choses the relationship with Christ and his (our) FAther.
Both are important to learn and know because to understand Christianity one must allude to Judaism it's full force and flavor while Christ vehemently liberated those who were stuck in the quagmire of human rituals...likewise, Sidharta only meditated the MIDDLE PATH but illuminated a very detailed suttras of meditations in the form of meditations (depending on the type of buddhism)....
So now we are talking of "RELIGIONS" but why are you using other faiths inorder to raise your Christianity? That is my main question to you personally....
You claim that through Evangelization, one can have a personal relationship with Christ. That is the misnomer...that is not necessarily true because though that is a noble thing, it is the other side of AGGRESSION while being PASSIVE is the individual way of having relationship with Christ.
Christ have never taken down any religion and most specifically never attributed to Buddhism and Hinduism...but he concentrated on the liberation of his people (jews) against the Romans and Jewish establishment thus earning the title as the "savior" likewise...
But one thing you must know that despite your knowledge of the bible, is that you are alluding to MAN's RITUALS. Something Christ have vehemently denied and important, he simplified faith instead into the precepts of the LORD's PRAYER....please meditate on that prayer to show us.
On Buddhism and Hinduism (just like Christiantiy and Judaism), we cannot "trash" the old because it isn't about trashing the old, but dispeling the artifices and rituals that have "complexified" (my own term) instead of simpliflications (Buddha and Christ did both)...
Buddha alluded to his MIDDLE PATH and Christ alluded to simply OUR FATHER (Lord's Prayer)...both are right in their "mission" to do their job as God's representative in their area of responsibility as AVATARS.
And so follow Christ meant follow his path....that path is the same as following Buddha's Middle Path. The same as in instilling the "disciplines" of the Middle Path to your creator. Sidharta's followers must allude to the Hindu faith that is the source inorder to understand more.....while Christ's followers much also allude to their source in Judaism to understand more.
Both Hinduism and Judaism are very, very similar...ultimately monotheistic. Hinduism is simply misunderstood as the "faith of 10 thousand Gods". But there's only one source...THE FATHER, that is known as the BRAHMAN or BABAJI or the Father....in Judaism we can see YAHWEH or JEHOVAH (depending on what sect you believe in or the variations)...but both of these oldest cultures (we haven't even touched TAOISM yet)....of man.
And so to be true to this thread's topic, then you must also acknowledge other religions (faith instead of the RELIGARE).
To say that other faiths were of the Devil or satan...is simply a vilification of other faiths. That is very un-Christ-like if you are a proponent of THE FATHER through him.
If you adhere to his simple teachings of the LORD'S PRAYER, then you can simplify more...that all faiths are the same. Going back to the father...however that is, if you speak HIndu, Islam, Taoist, Buddhism or Christianity.
It won't matter if we rid of man's rituals....those are man's expressions towards their own creator and source. And the source is the Father. But we are all of his children.
Peace.
