Having been hit with bare fists repeatedly, small gloves repeatedly, and 16 oz gloves repeatedly, LMFAO I will simply state that no gloves = terror.

Gloves add mass, they add a bit more thudding impact, but the effect is nowhere near being cracked with no padding.

Right after being hit in the cheek with a knuckle, you get the buzzing feeling directly on the impact area and it's ugly.

The most painful thing I've ever felt in my life,

Was being hit in the eyeball with a bare knuckle. It was over the top.

I'd rather be kicked in the balls by ten people.

Boxers get a break every 3 minutes while MMA fighters use their whole body muscles and go 5 minutes strong each round. Let an MMA fighter jus stand up and use his arms it will be easy work...put a boxer and try to last in an MMA match and his cardio wont last...they use their whole body muscles
boxing is more of a cardio demanding sport, go try it sometime in real life.

mma fighters dont have to support their body weight while they roll around on the ground. while a boxer has to support his entire body the entire time hes in the ring on top of having to use his entire body every time he throws a punch.

Boxing gloves and MMA gloves are virtually no difference, a little but not a lot like ppl lead on to...The padding on boxing gloves barley does anythin to stop the force of a punch that is being pushed thru from the force of the body
          See below...

the diffrence is that 4 oz is lighter then 12 oz and you can throw 4 oz faster then 12 oz given that kenetic energy is something like 1/2m*v^2 thus a faster punch is going to be exponentially harder then a heavier punch.
          What he said.

To claim that less padding has no effect on the force of a punch if ****ng ridiculous, as someone said earlier, if someone throws the exact same punch at you twice, once with 12oz gloves, once with 4 oz gloves, you REALY think they'll feel the same?

The 12 oz glove with slow the show down a little, and the extra padding with effect to impace of the punch to some extent. The 40z gloves are lighter and have less padding to protect you, it's really not hard to understand. If your not getting it, get someone to punch you with both gloves.

MMA fighters only fight 3 of those 5 minutes rounds though, sometimes 5, meaning their fights are 15 or 25 minutes altogether. A top level boxer will fight 12, 3 minute rounds, totalling 36 minutes.

          This is true

Everyone thinks small gloves do more damage, so more deaths will occur. The truth is, more people would be cut/bruised, more would be knocked out, but less would be permanently effected because they haven't taken sustained punishment. Think about some 12 rounds wars, the amount of shots the guys eat obviously will have an effect. If they wore smaller gloves, the amount of damage would have been greater, but the fight would end a lot earlier...

but in reality there isnt really less at the impact area, boxing gloves have alot of padding in the back of the hand and in the wrist. making the padding at the impact area almost the same if not less if one were using horse hair gloves vs foam 4 oz gloves.

if some one threw the exact same punch at you twice once with 12 oz gloves and once with 4 oz gloves they will inherently throw the punch faster with the 4 oz gloves on. if you were able to restrict the speed so both punches are at the exact same speed both punches will feel just about equal (assuming both gloves have the same kind of padding).

If they were the same speed, then maybe. But because of the lighter glove, you will be able to throw is faster.

When I said same punch, I just meant the same right hand or something like that, with the gloves being the only factor effecting it - be is the speed or power. Regardless of the scientific outcome, i'm pretty sure being hit with UFC gloves is more likely to KO you than boxing gloves. Just my opinion though

of course they have an mma fighter throwing the punches.

mma fighters have no top speed just strength as their chest and biceps compact the punch into something that cant gain much speed so their over all speed is going to be the same bare knuckles, 4 oz gloves 12 oz gloves hell you could throw 5 lb gloves on some of these mma guys and they still would be throwing punches at the same speed.

boxers train for top speed aka velocity (1/2m*v^2) no acceleration...well some do.....and through hours and hours of shadow boxing with and with out gloves on they develop a much greater top speed. have a boxer throw punches with both gloves and there will be a difference.
