I worked with a Brit, older fellow, he fought in the falklands and the first Iraq war. He’s a pretty tough guy, and smart too. We talked about which country had the best special forces and he felt that there are tough guys everywhere, but it’s a sharp strong mind and an unyielding drive that makes a man great.

But, he did say that some Russian Special forces unit were the baddest men ever. Stone cold killers. He respected the Seals, and the Mossad (all special force members)

Russian special forces are bad ass of course

But i think they suffer the same deficiencies as the regular Russian army

Weak NCOS, non professional soldiers, etc.

It's hard to break the disease of "conscript armies"

Conscription is good for fielding large amount of soldiers but hurts its professionalism even affecting their non conscript soldiers and officers.

It's impossible to say which is "best", the SAS or their US equivalent, because they work so closely together behind the scenes and have access to each other's intelligence, equipment, and personel, whenever necessary.

The SAS have the highest rep, I would say, because they are the oldest and the one which all other "special forces" groups around the world are modelled on.
