Perhaps the question should be is the UNITED KINGDOM an island...
United Kingdom includes northern Ireland which is not on the same island as england, scotland, etc.
Great Britain is the island
UK is the nation
England is a country/division of that nation
But since we're being all Geo nerd today.
As a kid I thought "wow the brits are so arrogant. Calling their island great"
Later I learned there was a lesser britain. Now call Brittany iirc part of France.
Hence why great britain. There was a lesser britian.
