Liberalism is not the most confused ideology. Some of the people who identify with Liberalism are very confused though.

I think it is the difference between regressives and progressives.

Let's say you have a hypothetical situation. A local library is only accessible up a flight of steps, and this means some disabled people can't get in.

A progressive would lobby to get a ramp built.

A regressive would throw rocks at the people using the stairs, and blame the patriarchy for everything, and claim that the staircase was a form of rape.

Let's take the example of the person who believes in gay marriage, progressive, and also believes that it's fine that this mans Muslim peers send him death threats and don't tolerate his right to be marry, regressive.

Is that not an example of a confused person? Either way, welcome to the way of thinking of most of Europe.

This thread has covered some interesting topics and viewpoints.

My initial confusion is basically this - why is it that so many liberals are, not even tolerant to, but actually promoting Islam which is basically the absolute ideological nemesis of liberalism. The yin to its yan.

In terms of gay rights, women's rights, minority rights, I'm liberal. Always have been. When I stopped identifying with liberalism was in the last few years when, in Europe at least, liberalism started to focus almost less on the rights of those outlined above and become a pro Islamic vehicle. You've got liberals here promoting the active teaching of hardline shariah in schools, undoing decades of great work on taking Christianity out of schools and achieving a more secular society - not to mention undoing decades of work on gay rights where in these schools children are taught being ****sexual is a sin in the eyes of Allah. As a liberal, I've always been anti Islam (not in a hateful way. I just can't support it just like I can't get behind Leviticus. Does that make me christophobic or whatever?) and so therefore as liberalism "evolved" to become this pro religion vehicle I stopped identifying with it and identified more with the "right wing" who generally in 2017 are not pro Leviticus or anti gay or racist (in Europe anyway) as those are now unanimously (almost) held values and the main key difference between them and the liberals is they are not pro Islam/religion which to me seems very ironic.

So I don't see any contradictions in 2017 right wing ideology, but I see heaps of it in the left as they predominately are very pro gay despite their promotion of Wahhabist Islam and sharia law.

Yeah, it is an example of a confused person.

I find it bizarre how regressives bend over backwards to accommodate islam, which is incredibly conservative.

If a straight white male was to try to tell a woman what to wear, regressives would be sending that male death threats.
Yet islam forces women to dress in the most ridiculous way imaginable, and for the worst reasons imaginable - and regressives support this 100%

These regressives identify as liberals, yet their beliefs conflict with liberalism.
So I don't say liberalism is confused, I say that regressives are confused.

Almost any 'ism' when pushed to its fullest extent becomes a terrible thing. Liberalism, conservatism, socialism, capitalism, communism.
But these regressives aren't even doing this, they are simply mindless hate-slaves poisoned by intersectionality theories.

I'll see your "trickle down tax policy" and raise you the liberal minimum wage of $15 instituted in Seattle that has cut their payrolls, putting off new hiring, reducing hours or letting their workers go, especially costing the city thousands of jobs.

The city decided they didn't like the results of the UW study they themselves commissioned, so they simply ignored it.

They then went and commissioned a new study (paid for with tax dollars, of course), to be conducted by UC Berkeley.

“The moment we saw it was based on flawed methodology and was going to be unreliable, the Vigdor study no longer speaks for City Hall,” said Seattle City Councilwoman Kshama Sawant.

Sawant, a former economics professor at Seattle Central Community College who ran for office as a Socialist, accused the UW team of “ideologically editorializing." She and Mayor Ed Murray then contacted Michael Reich, an economics professor at the University of California at Berkeley."

The world of politics is an odd one. I've turned on the tv and seen people openly supporting Hillary Clinton for president. Hillary Clinton is a woman. Let me repeat that,they wanted a person in charge who has a vagina. How stupid do you have to be?

Don't let who represents what party cloud your judgement,it's been proven by science that women suck.

I am more centrist than liberal (but have conservative views on a number of subjects) but there is really no issue here. The issue is never what people believe, but how they express that belief.

It's fine if white men and Muslims do not agree that gays should be married because of their religious beliefs. In their mosques/church they can practice their religion as they see fit. If they choose to protest in public, fine, so long as they do not commit acts of violence against those they are protesting against.

In the US, we separate church and state. So the men should be allowed to marry each other because spouses of the financial and legal ramifications of not being married. If they come across the protests they have to accept the fact the right of free speech and to protest covers things you like and the things you find abhorrent.

Liberalism isn't a confused ideology, it is one that allows for constant reevaluating as society progresses, which frankly makes sense because societies change as we make advances in technology, science, law, etc.

Your ideals and how you view the world should work is utopic and it cannot and will never work out like that as we see now in europe,the only secular muslim country was Turkey and it elected with Erdogan the muslim brotherhood and going in a much more religious direction now.
In America you don't have problems yet because the ratio is much more in your favor but in europe it's a different story,you have whole muslims communities and in those communities they pressure more secular muslims.
If they have enough demographic in there favor they will vote religious against rights for example gay people (not that i care)
