New 'Earth like' planet found: Wolf1061c
Collapse
-
Unlike many of the nearest red dwarves, Wolf 1061 is apparently stable and not a flare star (life is very unlikely to exist on planets around flare stars). It's somewhat larger than some of the nearest red dwarfs such as Proxima Centauri and Wolf 359.
The planet is said to be about 4 times the mass of earth, although this is not known for certain. That would not necessarily prevent the evolution of life.
The planet is "tidally locked" so conditions necessary for life such as water are unlikely. However, is it possible the more powerful gravity might help to hold the water from evaporation in the areas along the border of the side facing the star?

Lol I like how the article says it's "just 14 light years away". One light year in kilometers is trillions. It would take us thousands of years to get there with our 20,000 miles per hour shuttles. Probably like over 200,000 years.
