Donald Trumps re election hinges on how well he handles this crisis. If we come out of this in the summer with confidence and a feeling like we have over come this virus, in large part due to Trumps intervention then in my opinion Trump will cruise to re election even if we are in a midst of recession. This will be due to the public largely giving Trump a pass due to circumstances that were completely outside of his control.

However,

If Donald Trump mismanages this response and we head into the Summer with virus still largely lingering and our economy in shambles, then it will be one steep hill to climb come November no matter how demented Joe Biden is at that point.

They won't have to think that, by the time the election comes this will mostly be behind us, and Bidens campaign can start playing the blame game.
