Venezuela didn't have food, medicine, and toilet paper shortages under a free market economy.
After moving to a socialist economy, they had the same shortages, rationing, and food lines all other socialist countries have suffered.
It's simple Cause & Effect, not conjecture.

The government also provides universal healthcare and schooling for the locals and they are also given employment priority
In short, poor Singaporeans are much better off than their equivalent in say New York
