I remember at the beginning of the season all the commentators were saying how the east closed the gap on the west. I am not seeing it. Maybe next year after free agency. Imagine if Lebron bolts for the west.

You need to add some context to it before you have Laker fan losing their minds.

The East has been this bad since MJ retired

It may never have been as good as the West but from like 2005-2011 it had some title contending teams. Chauncey and the Pistons, Big 3 Celtics, Wade/Shaq Heat, Dwight and Orlando, Lebron and Cleveland/Miami. Since the Big 3 Celtics went downhill, after the 2009 title oush by Orlando, and the Pistons going downhill though...its been weak as ****.

But that little 4-5 year window it had 3-4 decent contenders capable beating one another.

2005: Miami and Detroit were real good
2006: Miami, Detroit, Cleveland
2007: Detroit and Cleveland
2008: Boston, Detroit, Orlando, Cleveland (down year though)
2009: Boston, Cleveland, Orlando
2010: Cleveland, Orlando, Boston
2011: Chicago, Miami, Boston, Orlando

2012 is really when it went downhill hard. Bulls were good but then Rose got hurt and they were done. Boston was old at this point.
Indiana was decent. Miami was far and away after Rose got hurt the only real good team. The fact Boston nearly upset Miami is a testament to how good those 3 were together collectively with Rondo too.

The Pacers team with George/Stephenson/Hibbert, Bulls of the last 4 years or so, Atlanta, Toronto....none of these teams woyld beat any of those teams listed from 2005-2011.

Then in 2013 the best teams beside Miami were the Knicks (lol) and the 49 win Pacers.

Then in 2014 the Pacers were horrific tbe 2nd half of the year and struggled to beat Atlanta and Washington in the first 2 rounds lol

Then in 2015 the Hawks were phony, maybe the worst 60 win team ever. Struggled with the damn Nets and Wizards in tbe first 2 rounds.

Then of course this year the best teams minus Cavs were the damn Hawks and Raptors lol

If you assembled the big 3 Celtics from 2008-2011 and dropped them into 2013-2016....they wouldve beaten every single team in the East including Lebrons teams.

Lebron the last 4-5 years has feasted on a weak conference.
