And if the sun is a star then why can we not see other stars during the day???

Because of the glare of the sun, which is much, MUCH closer to us.

The glare of city lights make it impossible to see all but a few of the brightest stars even at night.

But if you go to a remote area far from the glare of the city lights, you can see many hundreds of stars. It's an amazing sight.
