            Because of the glare of the sun, which is much, MUCH closer to us.

            The glare of city lights make it impossible to see all but a few of the brightest stars even at night.

            But if you go to a remote area far from the glare of the city lights, you can see many hundreds of stars. It's an amazing sight.
