It's hard to comment. You seem to want to help him. Is there a possibility for him to progress? Maybe you could give him an incentive like stop doing these things and you can do X job next.
Depends how much you value him or want to help really.

He was implying he had a gun on him and was making a threat that he might shoot you. So this guy might actually be bringing a concealed weapon in the workplace. That, combined with his strange behavior = Mayhem Miller-esque trouble

I have worked with idiots in my time and sometimes they just need to be told to pull their head in or they can find a job else where.

Im a nice guy...... so maybe give him one more chance if you feel that you want to.
