      Crossfit Self Defense is based on the work of Tony Blauer who is a well respected instructor. Look him up if you don't believe me.

      I would take the class. Boxing is an effective martial art but as you said, you can easily damage your hands if you punch without wraps and gloves.

      This course will give you other options to protect yourself and you will be more well rounded.
