        I assume one of two things.

        Our ways of communication is not effective and not strong enough, or fast enough, and it will take thousands, or maybe 100s of thousands or millions of years for any intelligent life to receive our signals, and that's if they're even looking.

        Secondly, maybe there are no intelligent life where our signals are reaching, which does not eliminate intelligent life their being life beyond.
