Why do some call Hispanic a race?

the only true race is the human race period.

Yeah I was wondering why this hasn't been said before in this thread.

the "race" term was made popular when people actually thought certain human populations originated from other hominids.

Seeing how the "Out of Africa" theory is the generally accepted explanation as to our origins, it baffles me that we are still using the term "race" to separate populations of people.
