I'm pretty sure that the law in most states requires you to tell any potential sex partners about any transmissible sexually transmitted disease(s) you have.
Unfortunately, many people don't in the cases of more easily treated STDs like gonorrhea, but you can be successfully sued (and jailed) in cases where you've knowingly infected a sex partner with lifelong diseases such as herpes or HIV.
