in tolkien's mythology, he sees death as Eru's "gift" to the race of men... (dwarves and elves don't have it...) it was only when morgoth (the evil lord) gave malice to it that some men came to resent it...

nobody can say for sure what happens to you when you die - but the thought of ceasing to exist kind of frightens me a bit.....so does the thought of eternal suffering.....death sucks balls.....

i guess that's why a lot of people have faith in something good after death (to remove some of that fear that lingers)
