        Pila were thrown at the beginning of engagements, mostly with the intent of pinning down shields and played little direct role in determining any outcome of battles in the Second Macedonian War. You're clearly not well-versed in the history. Phalanx tactics in and of themselves were by no means unsuccessful (the war was a virtual stalemate until the Battle of Cynoscephalae); it was primarily issues of terrain, logistics, and command miscues that led to defeats for the Antigonid Kingdom in the decisive battle.
