Federal and Winchester are good companies, most their hollow points should be at least okay.

Dont know much about federal train and protect

      Sounds like a marketing gimmick

Those winchesters are their vanilla jhp that's been around for decades

Should be okay but nothing special

I tend to go high end on hollow points

Federal hst, speer gold dots, barnes tac xpd aka dpx (all copper barnes hollow point loaded by corbon, barnes, several other manufacturers)

Very good performers historically and popular with le agencies

That's mostly what I have gold dots and hst with a few tac xpd, dpx (they're hard to get)

I'm planning to switch over to Remington golden saber black belt and federal hydra shok deep

      Those are newer bullets

      • Try to look over hollow point studies/charts online

Hollow points seem simple but they're more complex than ppl think

You'd be surprised how many hollow points dont expand at all

Design is everything, just because it has a hollow point doesn't mean itll automatically expand

Especially the cheap hollow points and generic manufacturer hollow points

Lucky gunner is an ammo site but they also have a very helpful guide on some hollow points

        • Right now my two home defense guns is a sig p229 enhanced elite in .357 sig and the other is my old Smith and Wesson 4006 tactical in .40.

I load my sig with 125 grain speer gold dots.

The Smith with 180 grain federal hst hollow points.

I see...most of those bullets sadly aren't available in near by stores, and when you can get your hand on them, its gonna hurt your pockets. I'd love to try them of course.

I agree it that the federal brand sounds gimmicky but I've never bought them before so I gave it a shot.

I don't remember if I mentioned this, but ammo in PR is two to three times the cost the price that you get in the USA, another blow besides the already horrible laws that plague the island.

I also have a box of this for the HK:

Must be cheaper than the black belt ammo you mentioned

Nice! They look in top notch condition too! You have a couple of extra mags ready to go that's awesome. I wanna get a couple of extra mags myself, but I'm gonna check if I can get them online, i did check the store yesterday and they didn't had any mags for the P30
